Old Friends, Pasir Panjang

Uncle Lütfü was a football referee.

This is not him being rude. It’s just a reflex action from his years of refereeing football matches. It can offend some but if you get to know him, he’s really a very decent chappie – a bit pedantic at times but he’s got a good heart.

Incidentally, Lütfü is a Turkish name that means “good and nice behaving man.” The equivalent female name is Lütfiye.

And no, that’s not his second wife’s name. I’m not that tacky.

Unfortunately, I’m not at liberty to tell you what happened to his first marriage.
